Etiquette Survey For The Tumblrati

If (yes, I know that is a BIG word) everyone gives credit, then there is really no need to credit the entire reblog chain. If a reader is interested in following the chain, they can click through the “via” (or whatever) links all the way to the original.

Of course, there will always be someone who either forgets or (gasp) decides not to give credit. Now, stealing is another matter. Sharing links, images, etc. on the web will always result in someone ripping them off and representing their site as the origin and that’s not cool. The people who do this should be banished from using the Internet and forced to use AOL Only (in a trailer park, on dial up) and made to watch Hamster Dance for all eternity.

What about when the chain of reblogs gets longer? How far down the crediting rabbit hole should we go? At the point the chain becomes whatever you consider to be too long, do you drop all credits but the original or revert to just where you found it plus the original?
