I was kind of hoping Windoze 7 would include this.

I recently discoverred this and now, can’t live without it!
I’m not a fanboy—seriously, but I am loving my MacBook Pro! (via shawnblog)
Windoze user here.
Price and convenience. My work requires a lot of Microsoft powered this and that and I like just using one machine most of the time and certainly one platform or OS all of the time. I must admit it has been a long time since I have used a Mac regularly, so I don’t know how simple or difficult it would be for me to switch back and forth all the time. When I occasionally step into an Apple Store to check out the latest and greatest, I find no challenge in simple web surfing, etc. I have no idea how to use most of what those machines can do though and I’m not sure I have time or patience for the learning curve.
Oh, and the price. The setup I want is in the $10k range. So, maybe I’ll spring for something really awesome when I get all caught up with Uncle Sam’s extortion unit. Maybe! Until then, I have to settle for the occasional ridiculous performance that I’m still being trained to accept, live with and not throw out the window.
Nothing is perfect, but I can’t believe Mac users are just brainwashed to say such wonderful things about their computers. Something good is obviously going on there and it shows.
It seems like most Tumblr users are Mac people. But there must be some PC/Windows Tumblrs out there. If you are a Windows user, can you explain why in a reblog?
If you are a former Windows user, like me, you can still participate. Just reblog why you used a PC before you switched.
In my case, I thought PCs were the real deal, while Macs were slow and for posers. Two years ago, the most serious computer users at my company (Kunal and Andrew) were like, Yeah, Macs are so much better. Reluctantly, I tried one and immediately fell in love. I soon enjoyed being a computer user without needing to be a computer expert anymore.
The reasoning for me is pretty straight-forward:
- My work is heavily invested in Microsoft technologies. I lead infrastructure and web development groups that rely heavily on Active Directory, Exchange and SharePoint (with which I have a love/hate relationship).
- My career (enthusiast, developer, consultant, yada-yada, technology strategist) had me using DOS, then DOS/Win, then NetWare, then (inevitably) Windows Server products. All my employers and clients over the years had to use Windows (for a myriad of reasons), so I did as well. It hasn’t been exclusive, nor am I married to the Blue Monster. Change is inevitable. I generally follow the trend and blaze trails only when it makes sense to lead — that’s what keeps risk-adverse clients and pointy-haired bosses happy.
- Truthfully, it really boils down to being the Path of Least Resistance (I strive to be lazy in a smart way). Windows has always been “good enough” to “get the job done” — I always found that I could work effectively and efficiently (or, more modestly, my more inefficient and haphazard moments have not been the fault of Windows). *grin*
I suppose that makes me a pretty typical IT manager with a history in the trenches — I hope no one is disappointed.
The more interesting question is, with 5 computers at home and 3 on my desk at work all running flavors of Windows and GNU/Linux, why is my laptop now a Mac? That deserves its own post at some point…. ;-)
Imagine (sung to the tune of John Lennon’s “Imagine”)
Imagine there’s no Apple,
No products that begin with “i,”
No monthly iPod models,
No Apple stores to get you high.
Imagine all the people
Finding other things to do!
Imagine there’s no bloggers…
It isn’t hard to do!
No viruses or spyware,
No weekly Windows patches, too
Imagine all the people
Learning to get a life…
(You-hoo-hoo!)
You may say it’d be a nightmare
Without Google, Mac or Dell
We might have real conversations—
But the world would be dull as hell!
Imagine no new cellphones;
Kiss console games goodbye.
No David Pogue or Mossberg
To tell us what to buy.
Imagine all the people
Getting some exercise!
(You-hoo-hoo!)
You may say that I’m a loony
But rest assured I’m almost done.
I’m pretty sure it’ll never happen
So we nerds can live as one!
Dang!
NOW how much do you think the Microsoft Windows is worth?
