While in Bethesda, I made a stop at the apple store! It had already started snowing but while in Rome…
I got a new powercord and another iPhone case -the iSkin solo fx in passion. It’s red and I love it so much already! I literally tried like 10 cases before I found one I liked - I asked a genius if I could open a case, and he’s like you’re not supposed to, but if I don’t see you, it’s not a problem. Thanks apple guy!
I was strangely tempted to get a new iPhone case on my way to Kensington earlier in the evening. If I had succumbed to the urge (I already have 4 cases and don’t actually NEED one), I would have been at that same Apple Store… oh well :/
FYI, There’s really GOOD gelato across the street. It looks like this picture was taken from right there or maybe one door up?

God. MARYLAND, right? This is about 3 blocks from my old house. weird. And might I had that North Bethesda is NOT A REAL PLACE. It’s just freaking Bethesda. I hate that.
I used to live there and it’s actually not even Bethesda… it’s Rockville! My address was “Rockville, MD” and the rental office where I lived, which was less than 100 steps from my apartment door had a “North Bethesda, MD” address. It’s a Dumb Doctor scam. People will pay more to live in “North Potomac” (where I also once lived even though it had been Gaithersburg for all my life before) and “North Bethesda” (which had also always been Rockville since I was a little hell raiser) than they will for the slummier areas (as if anything in MoCo is slummy… well, maybe a few blocks here and there).

It just doesn’t fit!
On my walk today, I noticed what looked like a kid’s toy in a neighbor’s driveway. I’ve seen them on the road, where they look odd enough, but a smart car in the driveway of any home just looks WEIRD.

I try to take a walk every afternoon. It doesn’t always workout (today it’s rainy here), but I rarely go more than two days in a row without taking a nice long walk around “campus” here or, when I work from home, around Carderock Springs.
We’re meant to move.
If you’re reading this at your desk, let me ask you a question: when was the last time you took a break? Even better, when was the last time you took a walk outside while you were at work?
It may sound ridiculous, but the best way for me to boost productivity is to take breaks. Throughout the day, I take a small break (under 3 minutes) every hour, usually to grab a new cup of coffee. These small breaks are a great way for me to rest my eyes, stop thinking about work for a second, and talk to coworkers, but they never get me out of the office. To get some time out of the office (a real break), I typically take two walks a day, one before noon and one after. These walks are short, usually around 10 minutes, and provide benefits far greater than the “walk” to and from the Mr. Coffee can provide.
You aren’t meant to spend 8 hours a day sitting at your desk staring at a computer screen. It’s bad for your eyes, it’s bad for your body, it’s boring, and it’s terrible for productivity. Getting out of the office, even for few minutes can help with all of this. There’s just no substitute for the head-clearing, perspective-giving power of fresh air.
So if you’ve read this far and you’re still at your desk, get up and take a quick walk around the block. Your sanity, health, and productivity will thank you. Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s beautiful outside.

My wonderful home A house I once rented in West Bethesda backs up to I-495 (Washington DC Beltway) right before the American Legion Bridge into Northern Virginia (or right after the bridge if I’m coming home from work). If I am home early enough on a gorgeous day like today, I like to open all the windows in the house and listen to the wonderful sound made by every size and shape of vehicle coming in and out of VA just beyond my back yard.
Just a minute ago, I heard several horns and a long braking tire screech followed by that sort of empty silent moment of pause… then BOOM (1), smash (2), and finally crash (3) of four folks that were “rushing” home from work on an otherwise wonderful Friday only to ruin the busy sound of the beltway and my Zen moment.
OK, here come the fire engines. That’s not good. :-(
