Look at what I had found! (via shawnblog)
I’ve been in the ever frustrating “gotta get a new phone” mode lately because my free phone benefit from Sprint is coming to an end next month. The new iPhone 3GS, Nokia’s N97 and the upcoming Samsung Pixon12 have had my attention in varying degrees.
The carrier question has been on my mind as well. I’ve used them all in the past and Sprint has been about as good as the others for me over the last couple of years.
Yesterday, it dawned on me that I still had my Nokia N80. I moved recently and had thrown a lot of things out, so I wasn’t sure if or where I might have the phone. I knew I hadn’t sold it and I was beginning to doubt my sanity if, after all, it turned out that I had thrown it out… I mean, it’s old hotness, but it’s a great camera phone!
So, here it is, all cleaned up and ready for either T-Mobile or AT&T with no contract. I just need to find out which makes the most sense for me.
As always, but even more now, I would appreciate your comments if you have any carrier preferences, thoughts, etc.

Robbie Williams, Blur, Radiohead and Pink Floyd are launching The Featured Artists’ Coalition, a group aimed at defending artists’ voices in a digital era. The group believes that it is “a defining time for the industry”, with artists gaining power on the internet, communicating and selling their music directly to fans.
“A lot of the rights and revenue streams are being carved up, and we need a voice,” says Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien. The lobby group will deal with matters such as digital sales, copyright laws and signing deals with social media platforms such as YouTube, Nokia and MySpace.
Anti-Radiohead or not, this is huge!

I finally set up a “DV” account and I’m finally dropping Godaddy as my host for a number of domain names that “seemed like a good idea at the time” (but that I never really put any time into developing. As I shed the stagnant Wordpress installations and move the domains over to my new server, I am pretty clear on the fact that I may never find time to dedicate to web sites for these domains.
I’m thinking maybe some of them may be of interest to this community (please pass this idea along for others to consider). I’ve listed a six of them with a brief summary of my original blog idea for each. I think as tumblr groups, these could be fun.
If you want to add a twist on one of my ideas here or have something entirely different that fits the name, let’s do it!
same-store.com originally subtitled, “indefatigably blogging the demise of traditional retail”, this has gotten a steady flow of Google traffic for searches related to various “same-store sales are down” articles I blogged about.
bankdecay.com was registered when my bank really disappointed me and I realized that they don’t actually value me as a customer. I’ve never done a thing with it since registering the name. I think it can be a very cool statement to the banking industry with the right content.
greedyphone.com is a name I thought of in 2002-3 meetings with Microsoft when we thought $10MM was too low for our six month old, now all but offline startup, textamerica. The idea was that none of the parties involved (manufacturers, software developers, and carriers) play well together and the customer pays the price. Blog posts were focussed on “greed” aspects of various news stories. This one also has had steady Google traffic related to those posts.
n80ie.com is the model number of a barely popular, high end Nokia phone that as now alomst obsolete. It gets a lot of traffic and I will point this one to greedyphone.com if it is used.
gpsjunk.com was supposed to be about GPS devices. Never developed.
waterscam.com could be all about… bottled water!
All of these are now empty (on my new server). Please post here with ideas, etc.
Nokia has a patent application for detection of lightning through mobile phones. This would be a great application to have on my Nokia N80ie someday! :-)
While 3G phones gain momentum around the globe, the deaf and blind are still left behind by technology, having enough trouble as it is with 2G phones. A recently approved mainstread standard for 3G and Next Generation Networks look set to change that, as it enables real-time communication in video, text, and voice, making telecoms available to virtually everyone regardless of their disability. This new standard is known as RTP Payload for Text Conversation and will be made mainstream in the near future. There are no pictures of the exact handsets yet, so the Nokia N70 on the right is used for illustrative purposes only.
The Nokia N95 is now available on eBay from legitimate sellers. For reference, the first released price is around $1200 USD tonight. You can keep track of the price drops here at the price check pages with hourly updates or over at fonegrabber for up to the minute updates. I will be waiting patiently for the call from the New York Store until I lose patience and just buy it online. How patient are you?
