It’s not bad for Reston (the land of planned community and every franchise known to the suburban hero) but certainly does not rank 5 stars in any area. Ordering is crowded at a small counter and rushed and you stand in line directly in front of the bottled drinks, forks and napkins, etc. as people try to grab what they need. The table arrangement reminds me of eating in Chinatown (NYC). Not a bad thing for me because it’s very familiar but it is also quite crowded and noisy. The food? Other than the chicken gyro salad (that “chicken” stinks), I have had good food experiences at Reston Kabob. It’s the real deal and yes, the bread is good (although I have had much better). Pricing is a little below average for this kind of food (like Moby Dick and others), so that might make up for the crowded, poorly laid out space and “good” food quality. For Reston, this is about as good as it gets though, so save your tolls and time and try it for yourself! If I could give 3.75 stars I would, so 4 may be a little kind. (via Shawn H. on Yelp)
Fedex… OOups? (via shawnblog)
Spring was officially here this week and I found Clare And Don’s Beach Shack on a warm early evening. If you don’t try the Shrimp and Grits, you will never know what you’ve missed.
The service is a little slow and there are children working. It’s exactly like being at the beach… but you’re next door to The State Theater in Falls Church. Don’t go if you are in a hurry but definitely go and be ready for a great meal.
Oh and the bar looks pretty serious, too! (via Shawn H. on Yelp)
My bloated, directionless WordPress blog, shawnblog.com, was either hacked or corrupted in some other way and I failed to restore the content. I really never chose a topic and was spending far too much time and, as much as I’d like to think I should be, I’m not on the A, B or C list of bloggers.
It seems that, with the “social web” and “web 2.0” direction things seem to be moving in, the passionate argument I used to make (that web based, hosted solutions are better for the mainstream and therefore, will be more likely to grow and become wildly popular) when I worked for TA may have been correct (of course).
Look at all the browser based, hosted “apps” out there! Who needs to install something and administer scripts when you can just use the latest and greatest newly developed services at will?
I might always maintain a more static page somewhere but it will not be something I have to upgrade and tweak all the time. Not hating (at all), just seeing that the blog idea might be old (finally) or evolving as anything that grows must do.
This looks like a great service.
For now Soon, shawnblog.com is “running” Serendipity will be fed by tumblr and it’s going to get about 75% 78% less of my time.
Agree with the other locals about this place on politico-watching, the very good guacamole, the fresh chips and excellent smoky salsa… and the steps! They have excellent Cuban style dishes as well as some of the best fajitas in the area. It’s a great location if you are in Northwest DC. The server I had most recently was rotten but they are usually good. The food is excellent. (via Shawn H. on Yelp)
